The FRCS Exam is introduced by the four Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It  is specifically designed for international candidates who have completed their postgraduate study or are going to complete their surgical training (in their home country).Several courses are held in the UK to assist applicants in successfully completing this coveted examination. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has collaborated with MIOT International to offer a three-day course to help Indian postgraduates after obtaining their FRCS degree. This three-day course is led by a team of surgeons from both the UK and Chennai. The experienced trainers include surgeons from top hospitals in the United Kingdom and MIOT Hospitals.




FRCS Exam Course Format:

It is basically the group discussion or viva. Candidates will be able to participate in one-on-one vivas. Slides of photos and pathology specimens will be shown, and participants will be asked common questions. The emphasis will be on all participants answering questions.Each participant will be given time to practice their conversation skills with an examiner and explain their findings confidently. All curriculum topics in general surgery will be thoroughly covered, including emergency surgery (including trauma) and critical care, as well as general surgery and its specialties (upper and  general surgery of childhood, lower GI tract, hepatobiliary and breast, vascular, pancreatic surgery, endocrine,  transplantation, and academic viva).

 

Eligibility for FRCS Exam

In order to  be eligible for the exam, the applicants must have completed 6 years after their MBBS degree and give three written references as well as a logbook. Candidates must have completed a structured training plan before being eligible to take the examination. Candidates who successfully complete the examination will be entitled to become Fellows of one of the Royal Colleges.

 

Benefit

Surgeons who have completed or are about to complete their postgraduate study (MS, DNB, MD FCPS, and JSCFE) are eligible to take this examination. It will provide students with the opportunity to earn an international qualification that will be recognised around the world. Following successful completion of the examination, the surgeon should be able to reach a level that allows him or her to serve as an independent consultant.
